My dearest Sweetheart Mabel:
How are you today? I hope you are fine. And how is Nancy Lee? Your sweetie is not so good. I have an awful cold and a bad cough with it. I chewed up a box and a half of cough drops since this morning at 10 bells. Yesterday I ate up (or swallowed down) a stick of licorice. It irritates my throat when I get into a place where there is warm air and down at the office the air is plenty hot – from the hot air shooters around me. I didn’t receive a letter from you today my darling. Are you trying to get back at me for not writing you Friday? Please my darling, don’t be angry on that account because I’ve already explained my reason. You believe me don’t you? I wasn’t kidding you, my darling. I already have those parts back which I told you I wanted plated for Nancy’s buggy. They look real nice. The buggy looks very pretty in daylight.
What are you doing with yourself now? Are you still in bed? The time is up now so I guess it’s safe for you to be up and around again. Did you bathe the baby already? How does she like it when you give her a bath?
The weather was too wonderful for words today. It also looked real nice out yesterday but I didn’t get a chance to stick my nose out the door during the day. How is the weather up there? I think it will soon be spring. That will be nice it stays warm.
Tomorrow night I’m supposed to go to Oscar’s house for supper. I don’t think I’ll go – it’s too far to go just for the sake of a meal. I guess I’ll call them up tomorrow evening & tell ‘em I’ve got to work. Well I really won’t be telling them a big lie, because I actually have work to do here and plenty of it too.
Did you get any letters from me today? I wrote to you Saturday night & mailed the one I wrote last night early this morning. I hope I’ll be hearing from you too, my darling.
My dear pal it’s 7:30 now so I’ll hurry off to mail this letter so I can start to paint tonight. With love to you dear heart & Nancy Lee to Nan & Pa & Milton & Marie

My dearest Sweetheart:
Milton is holding the baby for me — I’m up again. The Doctor said I should stay in bed until the baby was ten days old, so Saturday after 4 o’clock I got up. Even had supper at the table. Sunday I was up in the morning and stayed up all day. I did go to bed early though even if I didn’t sleep until almost twelve.
I must tell you the reason you didn’t receive a letter from me Monday. On Saturday afternoon evening my grandmother was here. And Sunday right after dinner, Aunt Sophia came — they were here for supper. So you see, by the time the company left, my nerves were too “shot” to write a letter. You will forgive me Sweetheart, won’t you?
Friday afternoon & evening we had company too. Mabel Hein and the old folks were here. LeeRoy wasn’t here — I guess he’s got the whooping cough. They took him to the doctor after school Friday. Mabel brought me a torte up — perhaps we can save you a piece if it doesn’t get too dry. I won’t take the baby down to Hein’s because I’m afraid of that cough.
Yes Dear Heart, I’ll tell you about the flowers. There were 4 roses, 4 carnations (2 pink & 2 white), 2 large orange flowers, 2 snapdragons, 4 tulips, & 4 small white flowers which smell very sweet. Then there were ferns and something that looked by baby’s breath. It surely was sweet of you to send them — it was a sacrifice for you. You’ll have another payday this week, won’t you?
Do you get the Journal again? You’ll have to find out about the excursion this coming weekend. I’m anxious to see you, only I dread the time when you leave. Have you thought anymore about coming?
Nancy Leigh (that’s the way those people Natalie worked for spell their little girl’s name) surely has everything in the line of furniture she could want. I’ll be so anxious to see it all when I get home. It will keep you quite busy, won’t it Daddy? I’m so glad you got it. It will help us so much too.
Did Harry move already? Was he very much surprised? I imagine Oscar was quite surprised but I’m glad they were so nice. You’ll have a good supper to look forward to Tuesday evening. It’s too bad your seal has expired. I thought it was good until sometime in February, but I suppose the date is past.
I’m glad you got the box Saturday — the cake was fresher then. We didn’t send your underwear because if you come over the weekend, you can change here. I have to mend your sox too. Have you any collars clean yet — and shirts? Please Dear, bring them along when you come. And you can use a lot of bath towels, Wallie, at least 2 a week.
Nancy Leigh had a tummy ache Saturday night — she cried so hard. Sunday she was good again. Milton likes to hold her & watch her — he just had her sleeping but she’s awake again. You’ll be surprised, Dear, to see how much she has grown. Soon she will be two weeks old — how the time flies.
What did you do Sunday? It was just like a spring day here I was told. I was wishing I could go for a ride. It will be so nice when we have our Ford. We’ll pack Nancy Leigh up & enjoy our leisure hours rolling around.
Well Dearest, I’ll have to take Nancy Leigh now — she’s hungry and her 3 hours are up so it’s time. I’ll write again tomorrow, Sweetheart.
All our love to you,
Mother & Nancy Leigh
