West Allis, Wis.

2/14/31

My darling little Sweetheart:

Received your wonderful letter today, dear heart, I’m so glad that those flowers reached you in time for the “big day” – Valentine. Yes sir! the sweetest valentine in the world, and you’re it, dearest. I’m so glad that you like my letters. Only I wish I could write so you could read them. That’s my own kind of shorthand which I use in my letters. Clyde told me last week why I don’t just start out with a capital letter and then simply make a line. That’s a hot one isn’t it dear?

How is my little pal today? And how is our little Nancy Lee? I’m so glad to hear that she behaves once in awhile and let’s those people sleep who want to sleep and need it? Bott she thinks, “Why should I worry, my daddie got “piles.”

Yes dearest, I went to Clyde’s house for supper Thursday night. Nothing more was mentioned after his first “invite” so I thought maybe I could get out of it. So at 5 bells Thursday evening I sneaked off home. I just about got home & finished my “potty” when the door bell rings & Clyde come hopping up the steps. I already told you what I had to eat at his house.

Sweetheart! I had those flowers ordered already on Tuesday night. I’m surprised at myself that I didn’t spill the beans to you about it. I’m so glad you liked them my darling. Did you let Nancy smell of them? Did she sneeze then? Her old man usually does – just for fun though.

Last night, at last I got Nancy Lee’s furniture. That accounts for your missing out on your letter of last night. It was so cold last night that I was forever to make a fire. Today it warmed up again.

How is the weather up there? Cold?  Br-Brrr! How much snow is up there.

I’m going to keep you in suspense as to just what Nancy Lee all has in the line of furniture.

Who do you suppose called me up yesterday (Friday) afternoon? Miss Lois Quade’s daddy – Oscar! He called between 12 & 1 but I was out! I tried to get him during the afternoon but their operator would not connect me with him. So I called up after 5 bells at his house. He sure was surrounded by the news. But he said he’s glad that everything is alright – Cecil is also glad for you, dear heart. Oscar had some Notarial Work for me – but too bad my commission had expired.

I’m invited over there for supper on Tuesday evening. My supper for tonight was spaghetti – Tomorrow’s dinner will be the same. I’m almost broke, Dear Heart, the gas bill is not yet paid – it’s the gas company’s fault. I went there Tuesday after work – I had to work over a little while so it got to be 5:30 or just a little later as I got to the gas Co. but the damn fools wouldn’t let me in no more. So there’s another 11¢ shot. I’ll pay them next week though – I still have about 3.00 left.

My darling, won’t you please tell me what kind of flowers you got from me? I don’t know what they sent you. All I know is that I paid $2.50 for them – were they worth that much?

This morning I got up at 9 bells – we didn’t work today. Now I’ll tell you what Nancy Lee has for her housekeeping. She has a bed. It’s a size which she can use till about 4 years. Dimensions are 21 x 42” that’s what the mattress must be. That bed will do her for awhile, I think don’t you?

Then she has a nias wardrobe – like Cecil got for her shower.

Then she has a high chair. And she has a swell Buggy. It’s a peach! I mean it will be after I get through with it.

I worked on the buggy from 4 bells till seven o’clock! I started to Lacquer it. The buggy is made of that real fine reed. And when you step on a little pedal you can turn the body around.

I went down to the Boston Store this morning and ran up another bill. I bought some new corduroy for the inside also for the hand (3 yards at 79¢ yard). And some lacquer for the bed, buggy & wardrobe. The buggy also has those heavy artillery wheels, maybe I’ll get some new tires for the wheels! I’ll wait with that till you give me the okeh on that. I couldn’t use the Corduroy that was in the buggy because it was too very much soiled. Harry said that this buggy cost $65.00 when new. So Nancy Lee should feel proud to go cruising around in that – and you’ll be proud to be back of it. Tomorrow I’ll tell you a joke about a baby buggy. I mustn’t tell you everything at once andesterweis I’ll run out of a “line” for tomorrow.

It’s now almost 9:30 so I’ll sign off for tonight I want this letter to reach you Monday morning. I’ll try not to miss out on writing you everyday like I have been keeping it up.

With all my heart, my darling I’m as ever your

Wallie
