My dearest Sweetheart Mabel:

Just received your letter and was so glad to hear from you.  I noticed your letter as soon as I stepped into the door but the clerk – it’s a girl – on duty always teases me before she hands me mail from you.  She said “2 letters in two days is too much” so she wanted to hold it out on me till tonight.  So I told her if she expected me to work this afternoon she’d better hand me that letter.  I worked last night so I didn’t have time to write to you so I’m writing this during lunch period I hope you’ll have it tomorrow, my sweetheart.

I’m a fine one I tell you in a letter that I was returning the snapshot picture then I forget all about it.  If I happen to think about or rather if my memory will stretch so far till I finish this letter then I’ll enclose them.  Don’t, please, my little sweetheart be angry at me for what I did to one of them, will you?

You ask me if I’m angry at you?  Why my darling should I be angry for your not sending a letter like I kid I must remember this – in your case it’s different you have prayer[?] to pass & while away your leisure hours with but I’m confined all to myself all tho which I’m here so that’s the best solution I can find is to talk to you my sweetheart through a letter.  It took pretty long for my sprind[?] to reach you didn’t it? that must have went by way of Alaska first.

My darling I told you I had a surprise in store for you but my darling to my great disappointment it did not pan out the way I wanted circumstances to come my way.  But darling I’ll try again.  I’m aching to get home with you my darling I just about count the hours.  Are you anxious too?  Please tell your mother for me that she should arrange to go along with us.  I’m sure she’ll enjoy it.  Have you started packing already?  Please my darling please excuse my penmanship I’m getting worse day by day I even got bawled out this morning by “Andy” for my artistic “shorthand.”  But this time I’m in a hurry so it may look a little worse than otherwise but I’m a speedy guy but it seems my fingers can’t keep up with my line of thought (if I ever was found guilty of thinking) But I do the best I can I know this much I out-thought a girl yesterday she told me she worked all day trying to get a “Trial Balance” to balance – I got it to balance for her in ½ hours.  Course I’m not bragging about that that’s my daily labor.

Well my darling I’m trying to get myself set to see you at the end of the week because I’m anxious to see your sweet pleasant smile.

I’ll sign off now I’ve got to get a bite to eat so I’ll say G’Bye so long my darling sweetheart

Always your own

[German]

I suppose you’re beginning to think I must be crazy in the head or just a little off my base for writing you a letter in a foreign language. I wonder if you’ll be able to get the gist of it all? If you don’t then don’t worry little sweetheart as I feel a sort of foolish tonight so I thought I’d pass it on to you. If you don’t meet with sureness in the interpretation of the foregoing then I’ll interpret it for you when I see you.

I suppose by the time this letter reaches you you’ve already received mine of this noon. I’ll pay you for the damaged print when I see you will that be alright? In fact I ought to pay for all of them as I ruined ’em all with my “maj” on there. I’ll bet you [?] I would have made a good picture if I would have assumed a “grouchy” look.

I hope you’re not offended by the German in this letter as I want to find out how much of a Dutchman you are, I’ll sign off now with a 1,000,000 kisses I am your own

Wallie
