Chippewa Falls, Wis.

4/18/29

My dearest Mabel:

After a long days of wrestling about with a mess of figures and other trash I find it a great relief to park myself in my “tomb.”  Really everything is so dead in this town that I’m firmly convinced that Chippewa Falls has Racine backed off the boards for being a dead place.  I understand they’re having a dance in town tonight and I’m almost tempted to go & watch the dance.  Maybe I can learn something.  But they say you can’t teach an old horse new tricks.  That fits me like a glove.  I’ll go, maybe.

I’ve been looking every day for a letter from you dear sweetheart but to date I haven’t had the good fortune of receiving one.  I wonder if you’re angry at me?  Are you sweetheart?  Did I offend you in any way?  If I did, please forgive me, will you I really didn’t mean to do anything like that.  Did you receive my letters of Monday & Tuesday?

I told you of me getting a tooth pulled on Monday evening.  It’s now three days ago that I had that tooth pulled, but my darling Sweetheart my jaw hurts worse than the worst case of toothaches I ever had.  I suppose that’s the after effect of the “Coke” that the Dentist injected into my Gums.  I’ll get over it maybe I’ll never look the same tho.

Are you working hard these days?  Are you going to be through at the Marathon Shoe Co. this week?  Barthels told the boss of your handing in your resignation.  I’m sure I’ll be through by Thursday of next week.  Then I’ll come to see you at your home are you still planning on going to Milwaukee with me?  I do sincerely hope that you won’t “back out.”  Because I’m so happy at the thought of having you come with me.  So if your original plans still stand you can start packing pretty soon.

My darling Sweetheart I’m not coming to see you over this week end because I’d get in at 2 bells Sunday and would again have to leave on Sunday night.  You won’t mind will you Sweetheart?  I can come & stay a day or two after I’m through working.  Then I won’t have to hurry home like I had to do last Sunday night.  I just “made” that train by one minute.  So you see it pays to have a watch upon which you can bet your last dollar.  Yes, sweetheart I’m always on time because I always have the correct time to guide myself with.  I better not pride myself too much with it or something might go chicken wire with it.  Course that should happen so soon as I only bought it 4 ½ years ago.

Did you have the pictures made already?  I wonder how they turned out?  I bet you’re thinking I’m a regular question box tonight.  I can’t help it because I haven’t heard from you for so long that I must ask questions in order to be informed.

Well my little Sweetheart, I guess I’ll sign off and will await an answer from you with anxious eyes.  With a boat load of love I am as always

Your own

Wallie
