Oshkosh, Wis.

4/1/29

My dearest Mabel:

I’m writing this letter as the very first thing I’ve done since returning from work.  I might rite the events to you in about the same way as that negro did in that story your girl friends told over to the folks’ house, you know where were “treated” with the best what gives of “nearly” good home brew.  Well my darling nothing exciting happened outside of what I’m about to tell you.

I arrived at the Depot in plenty of time – twenty minutes of two – plenty early.  The train was bulletined to arrive on time it was only 5 minutes late that was very good taking weather conditions into consideration.  Everything went fine until we got to Eland where it took us 45 minutes to get away from.  Oh yes I forgot to tell you that the train did not leave Wausau until 2:25 A.M. – a 20 minute period to make up right from the start so after leaving Eland we were over an hour late.  But they hooked another engine on so they had more of a chance and they did burn up the trail for a stretch but we got into the Green Bay station at 7:30 instead of 5:45.  And then we were told there was no such thing this morning as a 6:15 train.  So I had to wait there until 9:15 and got in at Oshkosh at 11:30 just in time for lunch.  So then I shaved & laid down for a few and reported for work at 1:15 PM at which place they all asked me how Wausau was.  I told them – “fine.”  Mr. Mollerus told them all about my regular weekend visits to you.  He just smiled when he saw me & tonight he asked me how about “your father & mother in law.”  I told him that I thought I’d yet win their favor.  Do you think I’ll succeed?  Please tell me will you dear sweetheart?  I’m very anxious to hear some comments.

How did the weather turn out or rather, end up at Wausau?  The snow was pretty deep and the sidewalks so I used the roads which were not so bad I bet you had to walk knee deep in snow.  But there sure is an awful pile of it here.  They haven’t got the streets all plowed yet.  But the sun was shining this afternoon and it started melting soon after.

Were you on trial this morning?  I bet you were very tired.  Poor sweetheart!  I felt so tired on the train I thought for a while I’d sleep a week if I once hit a bed but on the contrary, I’m not a bit tired now I believe I could stand another hectic night like I spent on the train.

Did you gather up all the pearls you “cast before the swine” last night? – I’m the swine.  I hope you didn’t lose any.

I’m up on the 6th floor this time my room is right across from Mr. Mollerus!  Now I gotta be good – heh, heh!

Well my dearest take care of yourself & rest but don’t forget to write, will you, my sweetheart?

With all the love in the world just for you, I am & forever will remain

Your Wallie
