My dearest Mabel:
Maybe it would be in “line” for me to say “Goodmorning! Sweetheart!” From my end, it would be the appropriate greeting – I just woke up from a nice long nap. I got in my room a few minutes past 5 o’clock. I wanted to go out right then and there for supper but on second thought I decided to “wait a while.” I then laid across the bed – and fell asleep! I did not wake up until 8:30 P.M. But I got scared – I thought it was either Friday morning or Friday night. A regular 100% Rip Van Winkle I would make, eh! Sweetheart? I was so tired after I got through with the day’s work. I had an awful tedious task & I’m not quite all done yet.
While I’m at the topic of work, I might mention something which may strike your “humorous spot.” Do you folks get the Sunday edition of the Milwaukee Journal? Maybe you’ve already run across one of them. Amongst the Cartoon or Comic Section there is always a Cartoon which I guess is entitled “Somebody’s “Stenog” – a real tall blond girl, a little shrimpy man & a “teeny” girl but she is not a child she is an old maid she is so very small – a chewed off hammered down type. Well, my sweetheart, at the plant I started at today, there is an exact image of that “Lilliputian.” She is about 30 or 35 years of age but is so small (short) but fat. To give you an idea of her height. She just about can see over a desk. When she wants to get on an office chair she must make a hop to it. If you’d see her I bet you’d get a could[sic] chuckle out of it.

I don’t know just when you’ll get this letter – whether morning or noon or afternoon. I just wonder what you’ll be doing at the time. Do you read them (my letters) right away, my darling sweetheart or do you wait for night to come?
My dearest Sweetheart, Mabel I received the “promised” letter this morning and I sat down in the lobby of the Hotel and read it right away. I just must tell you something nice. The Hotel Northern is under the Management of a woman named Mrs. Jas. D. Tracy. She succeeded her husband at the job at the time of his death. She is a very kind woman. Last night as I wanted to mail my letter to you, she was at the clerk’s desk and what do you think she said? Here goes! Every so often she goes through the rooms in the morning to oversee the Chamber Maids’ work yesterday morning she came into my room and she espied your picture! So last night she said to me – “Mr. Polzin, you certainly have a very lovely lady friend. Who is she? My! she is so sweet! Right at the time I placed the postage stamps on the envelope so I showed it to her upon that she said – “Just you take could[sic] care of her otherwise I’ll crown you.
I said – Don’t you worry, Mrs. Tracy I’ll do all my share.” How do you like that?
My dearest Sweetheart! you say in your letter that we now can be so happy. Why my dearest I am so happy that I could sing & smile all day long. And then you say “If you still care for me.” Oh my, oh my! how much do I care for you! More than myself – Every inch of me is plugging for you all day long – you know what, I’m getting lonesome for you. The nights are getting longer & longer all the time I wish I could tell you right now to your very face how much you mean to me & how much I love you, dearest. I hope that you’ll never tire of my telling you that will you? If I “bore” you by actually telling you so will you please say so? But I really cannot help it.
Are you glad that I’m coming to see you Saturday & Sunday? I am so very glad I can hardly wait.
Did you like my letter of last night? My darling, Mabel it would make me so happy to receive a letter from you as you said you’d try & write one every day. I enjoy them so much. Since I met you my dearest, life is so sweet & interesting. Honest before I met you I often began to wonder what life was “all about anyway.” There wasn’t much to hold my interest in it. But now! I’m so glad to be alive and live just for you.
I am so tickled, my dearest to hear that matters between you & Harold have turned out the way they did. Isn’t that just too bad that your mother is so very sick. Don’t feel blue my dearest the sun is still shining for her, yourself & me on the other side of the fence and someday we’ll show her how happy we are and how happy she will be then too!
It’s now 9:40 P.M. in a few minutes the mail will leave so I’ll sign off – see you Saturday. Don’t work too hard my darling –
With a Carload of Love from Your Sweetheart
